April Baez Art

Look beyond the brush...

to experience art in a new dimension.

About April

I have always been a creative person. I always loved school art class but that's not when I became an artist. I became an artist the day I woke up from grief stricken depression in 2015 and had an unexplainable urge to draw. With the support of my husband I was out the door and headed to buy art supplies in 10min. I've been hooked on art ever since.

Over the last 10 years I've truly loved the time I spent creating art and finding my voice. Playing with ideas ,experimenting to see what would work. The experimenting has been taken to new levels with heavy texture acrylic paint. I enjoy stretching the limits and finding out "can it be done?".  Every day it is a joy to fill the piping bag, get covered in paint and create something new.

We are constantly reminded that our world is ugly, broken, and complicated. Creating my pieces reminds me of the beautiful, simple thing that is joy . Art has pulled me out of my darkest feelings bringing my soul absolute joy and excitement.

A note about florals: somewhere in the back of my mind I always thought it would be cool to be a florist. I love beautiful blooms of all shapes and sizes. And now, Im doing it in my own way.I have a different kind of green thumb now;and

as a bonus, these blooms don't die ,they can be enjoyed forever!

About the art

In 2023, I discovered Gaffery Art Materials, and I've fallen head over heels for their heavy texture acrylic paint. I enjoy exploring new techniques and embracing the joy of creating vibrant, colorful blooms that burst off the canvas. As someone who loves to be hands-on , I appreciate how this art invites interaction in unique and delightful ways.

In my artistic journey, I utilize a unique combination of tools that echo the techniques of a pastry chef. Much like using a piping bag and tips to craft delicate flowers and foliage, I apply precision creativity to my work. Additionally, my palette knives of various shapes and sizes allow me to sculpt and shape my creations, bringing them to life with texture and depth.

I also love COLOR!! Bright and Vibrant color! Because , it brings me joy but also, because I think about how God created this vast world. I am often inspired by stories of Near Death Experiences. Many of them speak of colors that we do not have names for. Colors that are more vibrant than anything we can find on earth. They also speak about an energy that they can feel through everything; blades of grass, the clouds, the air. When i paint I dream about what that would be like. To see and to feel colors and energy. To feel God's spirit in everything.

From Canvas to Life

April Baez transforms traditional painting into captivating three-dimensional experiences, utilizing heavy acrylics on canvas and wood to create sculptural 3D works. Based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work delves into the vibrant interplay of color, drawing inspiration from the organic forms of flora and the tranquility of nature, often blending the soft, evocative brushstrokes of Impressionism with Impasto elements to create a distinctive visual narrative. Her passion for color is reflected in her innovative techniques, pushing the boundaries of traditional acrylic painting to achieve a remarkable textural and sculptural depth.
